Newcomb Stones in Mound Cemetery, Pana Illinois

I visited Pana Illinois briefly in July 1999 and photographed all Newcomb stones in the Mound Cemetery. My GGGGrandfather William Augustine Newcomb is the ancestor of all the Newcomb's interred here. Two stones in the Newcomb plot area had fresh flowers. See the biography of William A. Newcomb and his son William H. Newcomb on the
Biography page  Ken Newcombe Aug 8, 1999.

History of Mound Cemetery - Pana Illinois

Mound Cemetery is located 1 mile to the west of Pana on Rt 16. It consists of 15 acres and is still in use.
It was plotted in 1857 by Reverend A. R. Coon. Some (12) bodies were moved to the present site from the area north where the Railroad tracks are located when the Railroad came through this area. The first burial was 1866.

Newcomb Grave sites in Old Cemetery, Lebanon Connecticut
(Also known as Trumbull Cemetery)
I had the pleasure in August 98 to visit the Old Cemetery where several early NEWCOMB ancestors are buried (Simon, Hezekiah, and Silas). The cemetery is well cared for - clean and trimmed. The headstones are deteriorating under the work of time, and most are partially or completely illegible. My purpose here is to query whether anyone else here would be interested in contributing to new granite stones, inscribed with the original inscriptions as recorded by J. N. Eno in NEHG Register, Vol. 74, January 20, and having them placed at the base of the original stones? If there's any interest, I'll undertake to get a cost estimate and investigate how one would proceed with the Lebanon authorities. Walt Newcomb walt.newcomb@paonline.com
